Poetry Nights Majlis – Hall 8
In this session, we will explore Al-Yemal and Al-Nahma, two authentic Emirati folk arts that reflect a significant part of the maritime heritage and life of the region.
Al-Yemal is a type of oral storytelling traditionally performed aboard ships during voyages. This art form is characterized by its narrative style, used to tell stories and recount maritime events. It is delivered in a loud and enthusiastic tone, which helps to motivate the crew and fosters a sense of cooperation during long sea journeys.
Al-Nahma, on the other hand, consists of folk chants performed by the Emirati seafarers while working on the ship, during pearl diving, or even while resting on the shore. Al-Nahma is an integral part of the Emirati maritime heritage and is used to express joy and enthusiasm.
Join us in this exciting session to learn more about the beauty and significance of the maritime folk heritage and its captivating traditions.
